Changing Course: Financial Implications of Dropping & Withdrawing

Course drops, withdrawals, and enrollment changes can have significant financial consequences for students. Join the Strategic Ohio Council for Higher Education (SOCHE) for “Changing Course: Financial Implications of Dropping & Withdrawing,” on Thursday, Oct. 29, from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. ET via Zoom. This free virtual training will be presented by Paige Kiley, director of financial aid at Edison State Community College.
This practical session will explore how enrollment changes can affect Pell Grants, Federal Direct Loans, satisfactory academic progress (SAP), Return of Title IV (R2T4) calculations, and future aid eligibility. Special attention will be given to new federal Schedule of Reduction (SOR) requirements and how enrollment changes may affect loan eligibility and disbursement amounts.
Using real-world scenarios, participants will learn how to communicate these financial implications to students before enrollment decisions are made and how to strengthen collaboration between advising and financial aid offices.

- Understand how Schedule of Reduction requirements may affect loan eligibility and disbursements.
- Identify potential financial consequences of enrollment changes.
- Have proactive conversations that help students make informed academic and financial decisions.

This session will provide financial aid professionals, academic advisors, student success staff, and others who support students with practical information they can use to make those conversations more effective.
