As colleges and universities prepare for the federal government’s spring 2027 deadline to comply with updated Title II web accessibility requirements, creating accessible learning experiences has never been more important.
Join SOCHE for a virtual lunch and learn, “Rethinking Readiness: Faculty Practices for Course Accessibility,” on Thursday, Oct. 8, at 12 p.m. ET via Zoom. This session will be presented by Dr. Megan Dinnesen and Alexandria Grant from Mount St. Joseph University.
Student readiness is an ongoing conversation across higher education, but what if we shifted the focus to faculty readiness? In this practical session, participants will explore strategies for building accessibility into both online and in-person courses, creating learning environments that better support all students while helping institutions prepare for evolving accessibility expectations.
Presenters will examine common challenges experienced by neurodivergent learners, discuss how the transition from K-12 to higher education affects student support, and share actionable techniques for improving accessibility in course organization, student engagement, and assessment practices.
Participants will learn how to:
- Identify common challenges faced by neurodivergent students and recognize how these may manifest in the university classroom.
- Discuss how changes in service delivery from K-12 to higher education impact neurodivergent learners.
- Apply practical strategies for improving course accessibility through enhanced organization and structure, student engagement with content, and accessible assessment practices.

About the Presenters
Megan Schneider Dinnesen, Ed.D.
Associate Professor
Director, Center for Teaching & Learning
Mount St. Joseph University
Dr. Megan Schneider Dinnesen is an Associate Professor of Special Education in the School of Education at Mount St. Joseph University. She has more than twenty years of experience in special education and loves working with pre-service teachers. Dr. Dinnesen also serves as the Director of the Center for Teaching & Learning at Mount St. Joseph University. In this role, Dr. Dinnesen facilitates programming and provides resources to support faculty and staff in implementing best practices in teaching and learning in higher education environments.
Alexandria Grant, MS, CCC-SLP
Director, Learning Commons & Student Accessibility Services
Mount St. Joseph University
Alexandria Grant, M.S., CCC-SLP is the Director of the Learning Commons and Student Accessibility Services at Mount St. Joseph University. A certified speech-language pathologist, she has experience in K-12 schools, private practice, skilled nursing, and higher education. In her current role, Alexandria leads campus-wide initiatives that promote accessibility, academic support, and student success through services including disability accommodations, tutoring, academic coaching, and the Testing Center. She is passionate about creating inclusive learning environments and equipping faculty with practical strategies to support the success of all students.
