The Strategic Ohio Council for Higher Education (SOCHE) will host an in-person Domestic Violence on Campus training on Friday, March 22, at the Montgomery County Business Solutions Center (1435 Cincinnati St., Suite 300, Dayton). The training, which will be conducted by Susan Gottschalk from Artemis Center, takes place from 9:30-11:30 a.m.
This training will introduce the domestic violence dynamic and what it may look like among students, faculty, and staff. Participants will learn how to screen for domestic violence, best practice responses that are most helpful to victims/survivors, and de-escalation techniques for dealing with batterers. Participants also will learn very basic safety planning and how to refer victims/survivors to community resources that may help them increase their safety and self-sufficiency. Finally, this training will include suggestions for steps that can be taken campus-wide to build awareness and increase survivor safety.
Training participants will be able to:
- Explain the Power and Control Dynamic
- Screen individuals for domestic violence
- Refer victim/survivors for domestic violence services
- Engage in very basic safety planning with victim/survivors
