Jo Alice Blondin - Clark State

Jo Alice Blondin, Ph.D.

Jo Alice Blondin, Ph.D., became the fifth president of Clark State College on July 1, 2013. Prior to Clark State, Dr. Blondin served as chancellor of Arkansas Tech University – Ozark Campus and professor of English for seven years, as well as chief academic officer, chief student officer, department chair of English, communication and social sciences, as well as the instructor of English. She holds a Ph.D. in English from Arizona State University, Master of Arts in English from Arizona State University and Bachelor of Arts from Purdue University majoring in English with a minor in Spanish.

Dr. Blondin focuses all of her efforts on realizing the mission of the institutions she has served, and is known for both her student-centered approach and her emphasis on workforce development. Since joining Clark State, Dr. Blondin has led the development and implementation of four strategic plans, launched multiple marketing and branding campaigns, and introduced employee wellness, safety and mentoring programs. She has established four bachelor’s degree programs and numerous workforce initiatives, reorganized the campus to improve student success and completion — resulting in a more than 70% increase in state funding — and secured more than $25 million in state funds for capital and community improvement projects. Additionally, she has obtained more than $26 million in grant funding for programs in manufacturing, precision agriculture, cybersecurity, addiction studies, mental health, scholarships and youth services. Since Dr. Blondin began in 2013, the Clark State Foundation endowment has grown from $13 million to more than $31 million.

Dr. Blondin’s national, regional and local service strengthens Clark State’s responsiveness to workforce and community needs. Dr. Blondin is past chair of the Higher Learning Commission Board of Trustees, the president of the National Council for Workforce Education and chair of the Presidents for the Ohio Association of Community Colleges. Additionally, she serves on the boards of the Greater Springfield Partnership, Dayton Development Coalition, Rocking Horse Community Health Center and the Community College Alliance for Agricultural Advancement. A native of Carmel, Indiana, Dr. Blondin lives in Springfield with her husband, Andy Fox, who is a systems analyst for ABF Freight Systems. Their daughter, Dr. Helena Fox, is a veterinarian in Springfield.

Christopher Hogan

Christopher J. Hogan, is a native Daytonian, is a seasoned higher education leader specializing in student conduct. Currently, he serves as the Director of Community Standards and Student Conduct at Wright State University, where he oversees the university’s student conduct processes, co-chairs the university’s CARE Team, and leads other institution-wide initiatives that enhance student success. With more than a decade of experience, Christopher has taught first-year seminars, facilitated leadership workshops and presented at conferences, both regionally and nationally. Recognized with multiple awards for service, he is committed to fostering safe and growth-centered campus environments, where all students can thrive.

Michael B. Key

Michael B. Key is an educator, systems thinker, and student success strategist with over a decade of experience in higher education leadership. He specializes in designing human-centered processes that foster persistence, engagement, and belonging across academic and student affairs. His primary job responsibilities over the past decade have been to increase student engagement and retention, but specifically for students in academic distress who are often deemed unmotivated by system standards. Michael’s journey reflects a core belief: professional development cannot succeed without personal development. Through self-reflection, adaptive leadership, transparent communication, and flexible systems design, he continues to grow as a co-learner and leader alongside students, employees, and peers.

Scott Markland, Ph.D.

Dr. Scott Markland has recently completed his 30th year in higher education, with 17 of those years spent in various leadership roles at Sinclair Community College. His positions at Sinclair have included Senior Director of Student and Academic Support Services, Vice President of Regional Centers, Interim Provost, and, currently, Senior Vice President for Student Development.

Scott is an Aspen Institute Fellow in the College Excellence Program and serves on the Chief Student Affairs Officers Council of the Ohio Association of Community Colleges. He is also a board member and chair for Bottom Line Ohio. Before joining Sinclair, Scott held both administrative and instructional positions at the University of Dayton and Miami University.

Dr. Markland earned a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Science from Wright State University, as well as a PhD in Higher Education Administration from Ohio University. He continues to lecture and teach on higher education topics, including student development, innovation, and leadership.

Lorrie Spivey, PsyD,NCC, LPC

Dr. Lorrie Spivey is a Nationally Certified and Licensed Professional Counselor and accomplished leader with nearly 20 years of experience in mental health, accessibility, crisis response, and student support. She holds a Doctor of Psychology in Behavioral Health Leadership from Walden University, a Master of Arts in Education in Mental Health Counseling from Chadron State College, and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Wright State University.

With over a decade of leadership at Sinclair Community College, Dr. Spivey has played a pivotal role in advancing student support initiatives. Dr. Spivey is the Sinclair Community College Director of Student Affairs and previously served as Sinclair Community College’s Accessibility Manager and ADA Coordinator, where she led institution-wide efforts to support students with disabilities and improve overall student well-being. As Project Director for a $900,000 U.S. Department of Education Basic Needs Grant, she has led the development of a Resiliency Center, peer support programs, and targeted services for students with mental health-related disabilities. Dr. Spivey is deeply committed to creating impactful, inclusive support systems in higher education through strategic vision and compassionate leadership. Dr Spivey enjoys spending time with family and traveling. She is married to Larry Spivey and together they have 4 sons , 2 grandsons, and one granddaughter.

Aaron Sturgill

Aaron Sturgill is a higher education leader with over a decade of experience advancing student success through career development, strategic partnerships, and campus-wide collaboration. As the Executive Director of Career Services at Ohio University, he leads efforts to create a “Career Competent Campus,” ensuring every student has access to meaningful career support. Aaron is passionate about equity, innovation, and empowering students to envision futures that align with their values and goals. He regularly presents and consults on best practices in career coaching.

Lindsay Tate

Associate Director of Partnerships – AI Excellence Institute

Lindsay Tate is currently the Associate Director of Partnerships for the AI Excellence Institute at Sinclair College. In this role, she connects with industry partners to provide AI literacy training and foster collaborative opportunities with the goal of AI workplace readiness for everyone. Prior to this role, she led the Learning and Development team in Workforce Development at Sinclair, providing leadership training, consulting, and coaching to organizations and individuals. Lindsay holds a Bachelor of Art in Business/Marketing from Transylvania University, a Master of Science in Education (College Student Personnel) from the University of Dayton.

Jarrod Tudor, Ph.D., JD

Dr. Jarrod Tudor currently serves as the Executive Vice President and Chief Academic Officer at Hocking College.  His administrative portfolio includes managing academic affairs, governmental relations, athletics, grants administration, campus security, institutional research, community relations, and development.

Dr. Tudor holds a Ph.D. in Higher Education Administration from Kent State University, a J.D. and an M.A. in Political Science from the University of Toledo, an M.B.A. and an M.P.A. also from Kent State University, and Master of Laws degrees from both the University of Akron and Cleveland State University. He also graduated from The Ohio State University with a B.A. in political science.  Prior to coming to Ohio University, he spent 20 years working in the Kent State University regional campus system.  While at Kent State, he served as Dean and Chief Administrative Officer at the Geauga and Twinsburg Campuses and Director of Paralegal Studies.  After service at Kent State, Dr. Tudor spent four years at the University of Akron holding the positions of Dean of Wayne College and the regional campus system and Interim Dean of the LeBron James Family Foundation College of Education.  Immediately before coming to Hocking College, served as the Dean of Campus and Community Relations at Ohio University – Lancaster.  Dr. Tudor’s areas of research include European Union Law and Intellectual Property Law where he has published several articles.

Originally from Columbus, Ohio, Dr. Tudor currently lives in Nelsonville, Ohio.

Additionally, Christine works with local, regional and national employers to create recruiting relationships with students and graduates. She is also a co-advisor for Sinclair Student Government (SSG).

Zhongmei Yao, Ph.D.

Dr. Zhongmei Yao is an associate professor in the Department of Computer Science. She joined UD in 2009 after receiving her Ph.D. from Texas A&M University. Her passion for teaching and research led her to UD. She truly enjoys programming computers. She likes the complexity involved with technology and being able to conduct extensive research in this area.

Councils & Committees

SOCHE is dedicated to advancing higher education through active collaboration, resource and knowledge building, and effective professional development programs. To accomplish this, SOCHE administers 16 active Councils and Committees. The purpose of a SOCHE Council or Committee is to provide an opportunity for representatives from higher education to be a resource for one another, share information and best practices, identify common challenges, and, ultimately, broaden awareness of the resources, services, and activities in higher education. SOCHE is also dependent upon the Councils and Committees for substantial input on annual professional development programs.
