Event Details

You are invited to join SOCHE for a virtual lunch and learn entitled “From Doubt to Confidence: Helping Student Interns Navigate Imposter Syndrome,” on Thursday, April 23, beginning at 12 p.m. ET. The session will be presented by Kristy Stewart from the College of Cooperative Education & Professional Studies at the University of Cincinnati.

Are you committed to providing inclusive, high-impact advising that addresses one of the most common yet overlooked mental health challenges among students?  If so, join this interactive session to explore best practices for supporting co-op and intern college students as they navigate imposter syndrome.

This session aims to demystify this psychological phenomenon by defining imposter syndrome, identifying the student populations most affected, and examining its root causes in the context of experiential learning. Additionally, this session will provide practical, research-informed strategies for students to build confidence, resilience, and a stronger sense of belonging in professional environments.

The session also will highlight effective support mechanisms and advising approaches that empower students to overcome self-doubt and thrive. Attendees will have opportunities to share their own experiences and engage in meaningful dialogue throughout the session.

Session attendees will learn to:

  • Identify key background factors and demographic trends associated with imposter syndrome
  • Analyze root causes and contributing factors of imposter syndrome within the context of experiential learning and higher education
  • Evaluate the impact of imposter syndrome on student academic performance, workplace engagement, and professional identity development
  • Implement evidence-based strategies and support mechanisms to help students build confidence, resilience, and a sense of belonging in professional settings

Join us in learning how to recognize the signs, understand the root causes, and implement research-based strategies to support students in building confidence and belonging in professional environments. Registration for this session will close on Sunday, April 19. Click here to register now.

Councils & Committees

SOCHE is dedicated to advancing higher education through active collaboration, resource and knowledge building, and effective professional development programs. To accomplish this, SOCHE administers 16 active Councils and Committees. The purpose of a SOCHE Council or Committee is to provide an opportunity for representatives from higher education to be a resource for one another, share information and best practices, identify common challenges, and, ultimately, broaden awareness of the resources, services, and activities in higher education. SOCHE is also dependent upon the Councils and Committees for substantial input on annual professional development programs.
