Event Details

You are invited to join SOCHE for a virtual training entitled “Changing Your Mindset About Change,” on Friday, Feb. 6, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. ET via Zoom. This session will be presented by Katie Kerry from Sinclair College Workforce Development.

Change is unavoidable — whether driven by organizational priorities, shifting student needs, new technologies, or evolving team structures. Yet even positive change can spark uncertainty or resistance.

This training will help participants better understand why change feels difficult and how mindset plays an essential role in shaping our reactions. Through practical insights, guided discussion, and hands-on activities, attendees will explore how perceptions and habits influence their emotional, mental, and physical responses to change — and how adopting a growth mindset can make transitions more manageable and more meaningful.

This session is designed to be highly interactive, featuring multiple opportunities for reflection, small-group breakout rooms, and applied exercises. Participants should come ready to engage, share experiences, and actively practice strategies that support both personal adaptability and stronger team dynamics.

Learning Goals

By the end of this session, participants will be able to:

  • Understand change and the impact it can have on an individual and team.
  • Analyze emotional, mental, and physical responses to change.
  • Explore the connection between change and a fixed vs. growth mindset.
  • Apply mindset-based strategies to manage transitions more effectively.
  • Identify ways to support colleagues and teams during periods of change.

Councils & Committees

SOCHE is dedicated to advancing higher education through active collaboration, resource and knowledge building, and effective professional development programs. To accomplish this, SOCHE administers 16 active Councils and Committees. The purpose of a SOCHE Council or Committee is to provide an opportunity for representatives from higher education to be a resource for one another, share information and best practices, identify common challenges, and, ultimately, broaden awareness of the resources, services, and activities in higher education. SOCHE is also dependent upon the Councils and Committees for substantial input on annual professional development programs.
