Event Details

Constant mandates, funding shifts, and organizational changes can leave higher education teams feeling overwhelmed, uncertain, and stretched thin. While leaders may not be able to control the changes coming from above, they can shape how their teams experience and respond to them.

Join the Strategic Ohio Council for Higher Education (SOCHE) for a virtual training, “Navigating the Waters of Change: Steering Your Team Through the Tempest,” on Friday, Nov. 6, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. ET via Zoom. This interactive session will be presented by Katie Kerry, Learning and Development Consultant at Sinclair College.

Designed specifically for higher education leaders, this workshop moves beyond generic change-management advice to focus on the real challenges of leading through ongoing disruption. Participants will explore the human side of change, learn practical strategies for reducing resistance, and discover how to foster a culture of adaptability and resilience — even when change is imposed rather than chosen.

Learning Objectives

By the end of this session, participants will be able to:

  • Diagnose resistance by identifying the emotional and behavioral barriers that prevent staff from moving forward during times of transition.
  • Communicate with clarity by developing messaging that explains what is changing while reinforcing the stability of what remains the same.
  • Protect team capacity by creating “safe-to-fail” strategies that reduce fear, encourage learning, and help prevent burnout during periods of significant change.

Please note: This session will not be recorded, so live participation is strongly encouraged. Registration closes Tuesday, Nov. 3.

Councils & Committees

SOCHE is dedicated to advancing higher education through active collaboration, resource and knowledge building, and effective professional development programs. To accomplish this, SOCHE administers 16 active Councils and Committees. The purpose of a SOCHE Council or Committee is to provide an opportunity for representatives from higher education to be a resource for one another, share information and best practices, identify common challenges, and, ultimately, broaden awareness of the resources, services, and activities in higher education. SOCHE is also dependent upon the Councils and Committees for substantial input on annual professional development programs.
