The Strategic Ohio Council for Higher Education (SOCHE) invites you to join us for a FREE virtual training on Thursday, Sept. 10, from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. ET entitled “Understanding Gambling: What Students, Faculty & Staff Need to Know.” This webinar will be presented by Dr. Gregory Stewart from the Problem Gambling Prevention and Treatment Coalition of Southwest Ohio.
The expansion of legal sports betting and online gambling has created new opportunities — and new challenges — for college campuses. College students face a higher risk of gambling-related problems than the general adult population, making awareness and prevention essential. As gambling becomes more accessible, higher education institutions play an important role in increasing awareness, supporting prevention efforts, and connecting students with resources.
Connect with higher education professionals from across the region to explore the evolving landscape of gambling, discuss its impact on campus communities, and learn practical strategies for prevention, education, and support. This interactive session will provide participants with resources to better understand gambling-related risks, recognize the signs of Gambling Disorder, and identify opportunities to strengthen campus response efforts.
Learning Objectives
Participants will:
- Explore the current and expanding landscape of gambling opportunities in Ohio, including sports wagering.
- Examine the implications of gambling among college students and campus communities, including the need for increased awareness, programming, and policy development.
- Explore the clinical distinctions of Gambling Disorder, discuss impacts on behavioral health, and learn how to support prevention, intervention, and treatment efforts.
Who should attend: Faculty, staff, administrators, and campus professionals interested in promoting student well-being and preventing problem gambling, including student affairs professionals, counselors, advisors, residence life staff, athletics personnel, and health and wellness professionals.
Gain practical knowledge, connect with peers, and take away strategies to help your campus recognize, prevent, and respond to problem gambling. Register today to reserve your spot.
