News Submission Guidelines and Terms

Guidelines to submit and be featured in a SOCHE newsletter and on the SOCHE News Page.

Thank you for your interest in submitting an article for the Higher Education or Workforce Development SOCHE Newsletter! Please use the guidelines below when writing and submitting your piece. Please follow the guidelines corresponding to the newsletter in which you would like to be featured.

Higher Education Targeted Piece

  • This newsletter goes to council and committee participants, faculty, staff, and students, both member and non-member, newsletter subscribers, and others interested in education topics.
  • Each issue of the newsletter will have a focus topic. Submissions, in order to be selected for the newsletter, must be related to the focus topic.
  • We accept submissions of all topics but will only feature articles that are on–topic in the newsletter. If you would like us to publish your article on the SOCHE news page, we will accept any related topic at any time!
  • Submissions should continue in the same collaborative spirit that we have in council and committee meetings.
  • Imagine each submission as a mini professional development event. When people seek professional development, they do not seek news, but to learn how to change, improve, and use tools to better help our students.
  • Submissions should include helpful tips on the topic, actionable items, think pieces about the topic, resources, or successful initiatives that other institutions can try.
  • Submissions should not be PR pieces and should provide ideas to HELP other educators.
  • We will not post PR pieces. Please be wary about how much PR you are including about your workplace or institutions.
  • If the first few paragraphs are focusing more on your institution and not on the topic, it seems like a PR piece.
  • If a submission is selected as a feature for the newsletter, it will also be posted to the SOCHE news page.
  • SOCHE reserves the right to edit your submission as needed. SOCHE reserves the right to publish or not publish any article submitted on the SOCHE News Page and in the SOCHE newsletter.
  • We recommend keeping submissions to 600 words maximum. We may cut the length down if a submission exceeds this word count.
  • By submitting your article, you are agreeing that SOCHE may post your article to the SOCHE news page and feature it in a newsletter.
  • Please send submissions as a word document with a title, the author name, the author’s  workplace, and the intention, whether to be included in the SOCHE newsletter or only posted on the SOCHE news page. Please email all submissions to soche@soche.org.
