About Understanding Trauma: An Introduction
You are invited to join SOCHE for another mental health training session, this one specifically focused on trauma. "Understanding Trauma: An Introduction" will take place on Friday, January 29, from 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM via SOCHE's Zoom platform.
Have you ever looked at someone and asked yourself “Why are they doing that?” followed by “There must be a story there!” Trauma can mask itself in a variety of behaviors. By understanding trauma, we can begin to understand some of those “unexplainable” behaviors we see and reexamine our approach to those behaviors.
Led by Project AWARE Ohio/Warren County mental health trainer Patricia Clark, this webinar will examine what trauma is, the various types of trauma, how trauma impacts the brain, how trauma can mask itself, and how to help manage trauma. We also will discuss how our current traumatic event, the pandemic, can affect students and ourselves.
Webinar access information will be sent to registrants shortly before the event.
About the Instructor
MA, Guidance and Counseling
MA, Educational Leadership
Pat retired from over 30 years in public education, having served students primarily in the capacity of a junior high and high school counselor. Not content with “retiring,” Pat went on to work as a long-term substitute counselor for a local school district at both the junior high and high school level. She also was a prevention specialist for the Abuse and Rape Crisis Shelter of Warren County’s Violence Free Coalition, where she worked with schools facilitating an anti-bullying program.
Pat then went on to work under a federal grant conducting trainings to over 1,500 individuals in Youth Mental Health First Aid and trauma. The focus of the federal grant was to train educators, agency personnel, court personnel, and the general public in addressing the stigma of mental health issues. Not content to let training lapse after the grant ended, Pat opened her own consulting business, Ed-Vantage Consulting, to continue her passion of educating individuals around mental health issues. She is currently working with a prevention agency in Cincinnati as their training hub manager and continues to work with clients through her consulting company. Pat is passionate about her work with youth and remains active as a member of the Violence Free Coalition of Warren County, the Substance Abuse Prevention Coalition of Warren County, and Warren County Connects.
