Event Details

You’re invited to join SOCHE for the third virtual lunch and learn of the 2022-23 year, entitled “Strategies to Improve Student Success at Ohio Regional Campuses,” on Wednesday, Nov. 16, beginning at 12 p.m. ET. The session will be presented by Jay Albayyari, professor of Mechanical Engineering at Wright State University.

Because of open access, many students come to colleges and universities academically underprepared, struggle with math and writing deficiencies, and have difficulties acclimating to college. In this presentation, we’ll review a case study involving Wright State University Lake Campus and explore solutions to some of the student success challenges this school has experienced.

Regional campuses serve areas that have a wealth of industrial and agricultural businesses which need to keep the STEM talent pipeline local. To accomplish this, schools need to improve academic support and infrastructure for all students, particularly those who are academically underprepared for STEM careers with math deficiencies, and those from underserved and underrepresented populations. A more cohesive student success program, coupled with intrusive advising and improved developmental math programming and technology, can enhance student services and academic support.

As an added SOCHE membership benefit, personnel from member institutions receive complimentary registration for this lunch and learn. Personnel from non-member institutions will need to pay a nominal fee. You can review the SOCHE member list here.

Explore a new perspective on the support needed by underprepared students and learn strategies for improving student success on your campus. Click here to register now.

Councils & Committees

SOCHE is dedicated to advancing higher education through active collaboration, resource and knowledge building, and effective professional development programs. To accomplish this, SOCHE administers 16 active Councils and Committees. The purpose of a SOCHE Council or Committee is to provide an opportunity for representatives from higher education to be a resource for one another, share information and best practices, identify common challenges, and, ultimately, broaden awareness of the resources, services, and activities in higher education. SOCHE is also dependent upon the Councils and Committees for substantial input on annual professional development programs.
