What are the eligibility requirements for the internship program?
Interns must be U.S. citizens and be actively pursuing a baccalaureate degree from an accredited degree-granting institution. Students currently employed through the Student Research Program are not eligible for the Summer Internship Program. The Summer Internships Program is intended to be a stepping stone to the Student Research Program. The Student Research Program is a year round internship program which includes full time employment in the summer.
What are the dates of the internship program?
Flexible between 1 May & 30 Sept 2012. Interns typically start their internship after the end of their spring term and end it prior to the start of their Fall term. SOCHE works with each intern to coordinate a mutually convenient internship dates.
What date will I need to start my internship and how long does it last?
The dates you will work from and to are flexible. It is recommended that you stay for a 12-week period over the summer months.

Interns are responsible for finding their own housing. Most interns either stay with family or friends in the Dayton area or rent an apartment within a few miles of Wright-Patterson AFB (WPAFB). Apartment guides and phone numbers for local housing may be obtained through the WPAFB Housing Office (937-257-6547).
Will my room and board be paid for?
No. SOCHE does not pay for your room and board; these will be your responsibility.
What is the salary?
$13.66 per hour.
How many hours per week will I be working?
You will be working an average of 40 hours/week. You will have weekends (Saturday and Sunday) and government holidays off from work.
How often will I be paid?
You will receive an electronic deposit to your bank account on the 10th and 25th of each month.
Will travel, food or lodging expenses be paid?
No.
Will taxes be withheld?
Yes, you will have to complete a W-4 form.
Is medical coverage provided?
No. You must make your own arrangements for medical coverage.
Is the program sponsored by Air Force ROTC or Air Force Recruiting?
No.
I am in ROTC. Will I be wearing my uniform to work?
No. Interns are temporary contract employees of the federal government. Civilian attire is appropriate. Casual outfits such as a pair of slacks (or skirt) with a nice dress shirt is recommended to be worn. Dressier clothes may be needed for particular events.
Do you require an official or unofficial transcript?
An unofficial transcript is accepted.
Can I fax my application?

How do I obtain course credit?
You must arrange it through your own university.
What am I going to be doing as an intern?
You will be working for an AFIT professor and your job will be individual to that professor’s needs. You may be working in labs, conducting research, collecting data, or writing programs. There is no set limitation to what you will be doing as an intern.
What benefits will I get from the program?
This program is beneficial to both ROTC and non-ROTC students. ROTC students will have the benefit of working on base as well as working in a military environment (possibly working for an active duty officer), and making the kinds of connections that could be helpful to your career. Non-ROTC students will be exposed to the military, work for an AFIT professor, and gain experience in their field of study. Interns may also have the benefit of working with AFIT Masters or Doctorate students.
What is there to do in Dayton?
Dayton has many attractions that may be of interest to you. There are free concerts, ticketed concerts, all kinds of restaurants, and amusement parks within Ohio, not to mention all of the base activities that go on. The base has a 4th of July celebration, athletic activities, and many others. Don’t miss out on the Dayton Air Show or the Air Force Museum! WPAFB has shopping centers and movie theatres within only a few minutes driving time.

I will not have my own transportation while I am there. Will it be difficult for me to get to and from work?
