Library Council
Purpose
The SOCHE Library Council seeks to be a networking community of library leaders committed to fostering the examination and discussion of library issues and trends for the benefit of its members.
Organization
Membership - SOCHE membership entitles an institution to full participation in the Library Council, which is comprised of the library directors/chief librarians (or designees) appointed from member institutions.
Leadership - Leadership for the Council will be provided by an executive committee comprised of a chairperson, vice chairperson, and past chairperson. The chairperson will preside over the meetings and events planned by the Council. The vice chairperson will act in the absence of and on behalf of the chairperson.
Each year a new vice chairperson (chair-elect) will be selected to serve a three year cycle, succeeding the chairperson the next year, and then serving as past chairperson. Vacant positions on the executive committee will be filled by the recommendation of the other members of the committee. All selections will be affirmed by the members of the full Library Council.
Activities - The Council shall regularly sponsor meetings and events consistent with its purpose. To accomplish its purpose, the Council may host speakers at its meetings; sponsor cooperative activities, interactive opportunities, informational forums, and professional development events; or participate in other SOCHE events and conferences. The executive committee shall meet with a frequency necessary to carry out its responsibilities in directing Council activity and shall seek the consensus of the full Library Council in support of its decisions.
