Greening of the Curriculum: Classroom, Co-op, and Career

In response to a growing movement in higher education that is being driven by students, faculty, institutions, and state and national agencies, SOCHE is pleased to offer its first conference addressing the topic of sustainability. This conference is designed for faculty, administrators, staff, and students that have an expressed interest in the dialog on sustainability, as well as for those on the sidelines that will be impacted by changes resulting from an adoption of sustainable practices on campus.

Featured speaker, Dr. Michele Morrone, Director of Environmental Studies, Ohio University, will share her extensive knowledge and work on environmental literacy. Most notably, Dr. Morrone has received state and national recognition for her Kanawha Project, including support from the National Science Foundation.

In addition to an examination of sustainability in the classroom, several key speakers will discuss initiatives that go beyond the classroom in terms of learning, as well as provide pathways for pursuing a career in the field of sustainability. This will include a discussion with representatives from the Miami Conservancy District, Ohio Board of Regents, Ohio Campus Compact, and University of Dayton. All attendees will have the opportunity to participate in an in-depth discussion in the areas of classroom, co-op, and career.

We hope that this will become an annual conference, and we can utilize the many resources in our region as we put our heads together and work on contributing to the discussion on creating a sustainable future.
