Lack of time may be the single most commonly experienced problem among American faculty. This Special Topics Forum is the first in a two-part series that addresses this issue of finding time that is becoming more prevalent in the academy. The forum is designed to be relevant for faculty at all stages of their careers from early to late.
The featured speaker Douglas Reimondo Robertson, Associate Provost, Northern Kentucky University, has written extensively on finding professional balance.
Robertson helped start or reorganize four university faculty development centers (Portland State University, University of Nevada at Las Vegas, Eastern Kentucky University, and Northern Kentucky University), and has served as director at three of the centers (UNLV, EKU, and NKU). He has been actively involved in numerous, significant innovations in American higher education for 30 years, including both undergraduate and graduate education, and has over 20 years experience as an academic administrator (12 years private, 8 years public). In total, he has authored and co-authored over 100 scholarly publications and presentations and in his book Making Time, Making Change leads readers on the road to a more rewarding, and less harried, teaching life.
The keynote presentation will covers efficiency tool and overcoming resistance to change, as well as aligning your values with finding balance. Additionally, sessions chairs will facilitate task group sessions that are specific to career stages (early, middle, late, adjunct/visiting). These task groups will confront some of the ongoing realities facing the current professorate, as well as present their core issues to Robertson in a final Q & A.
See the schedule for the day (to come).
The cost of the forum is $75 for SOCHE members and $100 for non-members. Included with each registration is a copy of the book Making Time, Making Change.
Who should attend: full-time and part-time faculty from all types of institutions.
SOCHE professional development events always provide a valuable education experience, as well as a good networking opportunity with colleagues.
