The tragedy at Virginia Tech pushed colleges and universities to rethink campus safety. This Special Topics Forum will address a segment of campus safety by focusing on disruptive student issues. The forum will concentrate on the following:

• Disruptive vs. disturbing behavior
• First signs of disruptive behavior
• Fairness to students and to the community
• Proactive collaboration that works
• Response plans and policies

Additionally, attendees will participate in the review of a local case study and hear a panel of experts respond to the case. The panel will represent different departments and perspectives, including judicial affairs, academic, mental health, campus police, and legal issues. The information and research shared will be pertinent to colleges and universities of all sizes and shapes, including two-year, four-year, private, public, and technical.

The fee for this special topics forum is $75 for SOCHE members, $35 for ASJA Members, and $100 for non-members.

Who should attend: all higher education personnel involved in campus safety planning and implementation, including student affairs, academics, security, resident services, legal and judicial affairs, and counseling and wellness.
